But they watched the Olympics, right?

More hypocrisy from the Republican Party.  When are the actual Republicans going to oust these jokers.  It’s like leaving Michelle Bachmann in place . . . it doesn’t make any sense.

Just when it looks like we can put idiocy like the Elian Gonzalez case and Cuban cigars out of mind and pay attention to real issues like Afghanistan and the economy, House Republicans are trying to make Cuba an issue.  They cite human rights abuses, but these same people didn’t say anything about President Bush attending the opening ceremonies at the Olympics, did they?  Matter of fact, I didn’t hear them saying anything against the United States participating in the games, even though China’s record of human rights abuses is at least as long as Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

It is interesting that this visit to Cuba was made by members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and that it is drawing this ire from the members of the Congressional White Caucus.  The specter of communism as a world power (if there ever was one) is dead.  Not even China or Russia still subscribe to it, though they pay it lipservice.  There are more pressing needs for our government (healthcare, education, civil rights) than railing against a boogeyman that doesn’t exist.
