I didn’t see today’s show, but as always I knew that something would be up Campbell’s arky – and it was, and not unsurprisingly, Barack Obama.
We will see, before the weeks out I think, Campbell stamping her feet and demanding that Obama listen to her and that he has to open the Oval Office and national secrets – just to prove he is being transparent enough.
Campbell goes one better in the show, though – she is now comparing Barack Obama with George Bush – that didn’t take long.
Mr. President-elect, this is the second time I have observed you doing this. Cutting off a reporter because the question didn’t suit you.
Mr. President-elect, this sort of approach reminds a lot of us of the current administration now packing up to go, and it frankly doesn’t fly in a democracy.
And this was, as usual, in response to a question about the current Gov. of Illinois. Now what was it that Obama said to get Ms Brown all pissy?
Obama: John, let me just cut you off, because I don’t want you to waste your question. As I indicated yesterday, we’ve done a full review of this. The facts are going to be released next week. It would be inappropriate for me to comment
So Obama has done a full review, is working closely with the Feds, and is doing as asked by investigators – so what is the problem?
Well – one of the reporters wants the scoop, they want Obama to tell them what is in the report so thay can go and sell a few more papers or to give Ms Brown an exclusive on CNN.
How that in particular will help democracy is a little beyond me – but someone will have the answer to that.
You don’t get to choose the questions you get asked at a news conference.
This is quite true, for once – but doesn’t Obama get to answer those questions the way he wants to? Isn’t that democracy?
You have an extraordinarily high approval rating right now. People in this country who voted against you are pulling for you.
Do I detect a threat there? If Obama doesn’t do what he is told by the press then the press will turn against him and in turn get those who didn’t vote for him to dislike him once more? That isn’t democracy!
These are desperate times for many Americans and most of this country wants you to succeed. But you will not succeed if you discard the very ideals you promoted during your campaign: directness, honesty, candor, transparency, openness.
Eh!? So him saying that he will produce the report, in a direct manner to a reporter with an honest opinion that it wouldn’t be appropriate at this time, and the fact he has done so many press conferences while picking his team isn’t open enough?
That Campbell is a WTF moment!
You’ve made a deal with the prosecutor to keep a lid on certain information about this investigation until next week. Fine.
You are the one who embraced openness, and you could stand to be a little more open to it.
Did I hear foot stomping then?
