From Pakistan to Belgium.
We all know that the world is moving into a different phase – one away from war and hopefully toward peace. How that will be achieved is with co-operation between a vastly different east and west. From the industrialised to the poppy grower, and even countries like Belgium – why would anyone want to attack Belgium?
(CNN) — Belgian police Thursday arrested a woman they called an “al-Qaeda living legend” as part of an operation to thwart a terror attack being planned to coincide with an EU summit in Brussels, a Belgian police source told CNN.
Police seized 14 people, one of whom was planning to carry out a suicide attack in Belgium, the source said. They had contacts at the “highest levels of al-Qaeda,” the source said.
The police source said officers “had only 24 hours to act.”
Belgium is one of the most peaceful places I have ever visited – I just cannot understand why anyone would have a problem with her – but some obviously do. And that leads to another problem with these Islamic fundamentalist – if you attack countries like Belgium you begin to lose lots and lots of support. I should say that about all innocent countries but the little flat land isn’t the place where you would normally see this kind of thing.
Pakistan has been named in the Mumbai attacks, not that Pakistan condoned or co-ordinated the attack, but people inside Pakistan’s border.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) — The founder of the terrorist group India blames for last month’s Mumbai attacks has been placed under house arrest, a senior Pakistani government official told CNN.
The move comes after the Pakistani government banned his group, Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), a charity affiliated with Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) which India blames for last month’s Mumbai attacks.
Of course these ties have been denied – aren’t they always? But it is now up to the Pakistani authorities to begin to close down and bring these people to justice. Will that happen? We will have to see but the reports that are coming out is that Pakistan is in no mood for a greater conflict. With US and UN troops building up in Afghanistan, and the outrage felt in India – it would be in Pakistan’s interests to root out those who are willing to put others to death for no other reason than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
World co-operation is needed – and this could be the beginning of it.
