CNN goes brain-fart!

Excuse the feck me?

There is only one president at a time – that is how its been for how long?

Analysts: Bush, Obama not taking lead in righting economy

That is their lead – erm…Bush is president so he should be steering the ship – Obama takes over on the 20th of Jan. Other than that all you can do is allow Obama to pick his team ready for the day to take over. Most Americans understand that, no?

President Bush has been noticeably absent from the machinations aimed at righting the nation’s financial course. Analysts and key players differ over whether President-elect Barack Obama should get his economic team in place and take charge, or sit back and await his turn at the helm.

“Somebody has to speak up soon,” said CNN senior political analyst David Gergen, explaining that he understands why Americans are growing anxious and yearning for direction and leadership.

“I think … sort of the bottom feels like it is falling out for many people,” said Gergen, who has advised four presidents. “They sense there’s a total lack of leadership in Washington, that the White House is silent, the treasury secretary has been battered, the Federal Reserve can’t speak up. These automakers come up to Capitol Hill and fail. And the president-elect is silent in Chicago.”

Bush should be doing something – but that is asking way too much, all he has done in the past is – well, very little – why are pundits putting the blame and pressure on Obama? He is, as is said time and time again, the president-elect!

Bloody simple to me – these pundits should be asking why Bush isn’t doing anything.

If Obama steps in he will be seen as stepping on the toes of this president – and that isn’t what should be happening.

Barack Obama has to have the right team in place to do the job – and to get that; he needs time to get them together.

Simple really – Bush is still a moron – but that isn’t Barack Obama’s fault. The American voters had a chance to get rid of him four years ago.

So really – who is to blame?

What they can do is ratify a new Amendment to the Constitution. Section one of the 20th Amendment is obsolete in the 21st Century.

The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

I wish people would just leave our Constitution alone. It is what makes us Americans.

Obama will have his day soon. If it has been such a lousy 8 years what’s another two months?

    Get over it.

  3. Julie P says:

If the Constitution were left alone, then Prohibition would still exist.

  4. Mike says:

If the constitution were left alone, Prohibition would never have existed.

I watched a discussion on CNN about the economy and yeppers, they were blasting away at Barack Obama. It would appear that people are so desperate for leadership that they are reaching into the future.

Obama is busy putting together his transition team CNN. He doesn’t have time to provide leadership for the Bush administration as well….

And yeppers Julie P., Mike is correct. But just so you don’t feel unloved, check out the nineteenth amendment….

  6. The long gap between the election and the swearing in seems ludicrous to most non-Americans. Obviously I’m used to the British system (also used in Canada, Australia and lots of other places) where the moving vans roll up to 10 Downing Street the morning after the election and the new guy is in place by that afternoon.

The American system guarantees 3 months of a lame duck president who, depending on how you see it, can either do very little or else sign lots of unpopular things (like drilling outside national parks) without having to worry about it. At least Clinton had the decency to just jaunt around in Air Force 1 visting Ireland and England and making speeches. I guess this is “fine” when things are ticking over nicely but when there are serious issues to deal with it must be frustrating for the new president.

  7. PiedType says:

Not only is Bush not doing anything in Washington, he’s headed off to Peru. Not sure what’s going on there that could possibly be more important than the chaos here. It’s his watch until January 20 and dammit, he’s supposed to be our leader!

  8. Julie P says:

Bob, if you looked at the Amendments to the Constitution you know why we have the period. It’s in the 20th Amendment including the history behind it, then you would know why. Section 1 is obsolete on the 20th Amendment given that. It needs to be amended to react to the world is ra[idly changing environment.

Here is the history to the 20th:

    The 20th Amendment:

  9. Julie P says:

    Mike and Exemployee,

Had the Constitution not been Amended women would not have the right to vote, there would not be presidential term limitations, there would still be poll taxes, the right to vote at the age of 18, the right to vote in US Senators, and the Civil War Amendments,. The Ability to Amend the Constitution has given many rights and freedom that we would not have without them, including the Bill of Rights.

  10. Matt says:

For those of you clamoring about Bush not doing anything to fix the financial markets: is Obama going to personally do anything to fix them? Heck no! He is putting together an economic team to handle that area. If Bush’s team sucks, then you can reflect that back on him, but to imply that Bush should be calculating interest rates and deciding on loan allocations is just foolish.

  11. Well, look at the bright side. The 20th Amendment gives Bush lots of time to hand out drilling leases to his oil industry cronies. Oh, hang on. Did I say “bright side”?

By all means, leave your 2 bobs worth
