I have to totally agree…

As is said in this blog

Britain, as defined, is a democracy – but is it really?

Gordon Brown is a Scot – now that isn’t too bad, but there is a certain problem with him, and the many Scottish MPs in the Westminster Parliament. That Parliament no longer controls all of Britain but rather, mostly, England.

Scotland has, in effect, her own parliament that can and does set legislation just for Scotland alone. That wouldn’t be so bad if Britain didn’t have so many Scottish MPs – I ahve for a long time said that Scotland should get off the Union gravy train and rule herself with no cash at all coming from Westminster – if that means the break up of the Union, I am all for it – so long as the cash that the rest of Britain gets (mostly English taxes) is kept in Britain.

However, they also have MP’s in Westminster who represent them in National Government. So if the government wanted to bring in University tution fees in England and Wales, they wheeled in their Scottish constituency MP’s to vote for it.

Therefore residents of Scotland get to decide for themselves and then get the right to arbitarilly choose something different for the English.

Gordon Brown’s children will be entitled to free University education, but he has decided that the vast majority of British students shouldn’t be entitled to this and has used the votes of those who have no right to have any say in the matter, to get it through.

So is that right? I say no.

The Scots are using cash from English taxes to provide free university education. Which, as has been stated, means that the PM can get free education for his children, but I cannot for mine. Doesn’t seem right there.

There is only two ways to go now. One – that Scotland leave the Union and become an independent nation and fend for herself in the world, freely trading with the rest of Britain or; Two – be brought back into the Union fully and be governed like the rest of Britain from Westminster with an assembly with powers such as Wales and Northern Ireland.

I completely agree, it needs to be one or another and personally I don’t mind which, but the current situation is unfair and not sustainable. The only thing that surprises me is that so little has been said on this subject. Perhaps it is because the PM is Scottish, equally this would mean that he has a massive conflict of interest.

As an Englishman in Australia I agree too.
The link is to letters to the editors going back a few years. As uk voter says”The only thing that surprises me is that so little has been said on this subject.”
English MP’s of all parties are the villains of the peace
they refuse to even say the word “England” when debating English only bills. The press is lamentable in not tackling politicians on this issue.

  3. Fred The Head says:

    I agree with every word.
