The race could be down to race

As I have predicted before – and received some nasty email about.

Some of the vile emails I get is always to do with Barack Obama being black. Why would we [whites] vote for a N*****? Was one. They have been from men and women – but always the same – one even accused me of being a black man who was an activist on the ‘Obama socielized campus’ WTF that means is beyond me.

May I refer anyone who reads this – I am white, English, living in Canada married to a white woman who happens to be Canadian. See the very top of this blog?

That is me looking at you. I don’t publish the emails because if I did I feel I would be giving people like that a platform – and even though I do believe in free speech – I don’t agree with hate speech.

But:

If there were no racial prejudice among voters, Sen. Barack Obama would receive about 6 percentage points more support, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll, designed in partnership with Stanford University.

The results suggest that 40 percent of white Americans hold at least a partly negative view toward blacks, including more than a third of white Democrats and independents. A small percentage of voters — 2.5 percent of those surveyed — said they may turn away from Obama because of his race.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey also indicates that race could play a big role in November. Asked if race would be a factor in their vote, 37 percent of respondents said yes. But of that group, many are Republicans who are not likely to vote for any Democrat, and some are Democrats who may vote for Obama because of his race.

Of the 8 percent of Democrats who told CNN they plan to vote for Obama’s GOP rival, Sen. John McCain, half said race was a factor.

The survey, conducted August 29-31, questioned 1,031 people and has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Experts point out that it’s hard to quantify racial prejudice because many people who hold prejudices are not going to admit to it.

THAT is what we have to look for. I had a conversation with a friend of mine – I disagreed with him, the conversation was that I did believe that Americans wouldn’t care if a presidential candidate was black – he said that I was talking about Hollywood – if the candidate was real, they wouldn’t vote for him.

Now I am coming around to the way my friend thinks.

It doesn’t matter that Barack Obama wants the best for all Americans – he is even giving himself a higher tax bracket, but still that is ignored. He is wanting to save American jobs, keep social security out of the stock market – which John McCain wants to use. John McCain wants to privatise social security – although now he is saying that has never been the case. Lie much, John?

[Thinkprogress.org]

Again, as I write this piece, I have to wonder why this is even dismissed by the MSM [Main Stream Media] in the US – why do they not take John McCain to task over his lies?

Politics is a dirty business – we all know that – but OK – you can look at it that way, Barack has hit back with some real below the belt stuff, even though it turns out that most is true, but McCain lies, lies and better lies – meaning that he isn’t telling the truth at all.

It should not matter at all that Barack Obama is black – it is the job he will do while in office, and he will do a far better job in office than McCain – that is a no-brainer!

Race could play big role in election, poll suggests – CNN.com.

  1. steve says:

Notice how that study predicting that obama would have 6% more support if there were no white racists left out the fact that the vast, vast vast majority of blacks are voting him because he’s black, and that’s somehow not racist?

you liberals, always good for a laugh!

  2. Ronnie says:

Umm Steve, the vast majority of blacks, 90% plus, vote Democrat ANYWAY!!!! That means they’ve been voting, at 90% plus, for white men for decades!! So yes, that’s somehow not racist. That’s called voting our interests. Will some blacks that have probably never voted before turn out to vote for him because of his race, sure, but given the allegiance to Democrats any old way, I fail to see the racism.

If you want to laugh at liberals like myself for something, please at least make it better than a “duh” comment.

  3. Hannah Stevens says:

People need to know about the McCain/Keating five S&L debacle that happened back in the 80’s. This was another time the government bailed out financial institutions. Keating was a good friend of McCain’s and a big contributor to his campaigns. And so to pay Keating back, McCain tried to help cover up the problems with books and got caught. McCain was censured by congress. Thousands of people lost their life savings because of this.

  4. I’m tired of this stupid “blacks are racist for supporting a black!” I’m consistenly confused by particular sectors of white, not all by any means, that take advantage of the spoils of white privilege in the country, all the while trashing blacks for any attempts at moving forward. I will never accept or comprehend the superior view of the people I’m talking about. Where do you come off with these superiorty arguments?

On the flip side, I can’t stand when there are whites who acknowledge this dynamic and taking overt efforts to combat it, only to be trashed by the very people that have been discriminated against.

Maybe De Tocqueville was correct: America will never rid itself of racism. I’m normally an optimist, but on this issue, I can be cynical.

  5. Joe Truth says:

Imagine this if you will. Imagine ‘so-called’ non-bigoted or non-racist whites refusing to vote for some one they think is African-American. Some one who was raised by a mother that looks like their mother; some one who was raised by grandparents that look very much like their grandparents, the list goes on. Now imagine throwing away your very future simply because you were not smart enough to look past color and vote accordingly. It should be no surprise that the majority of flat out racists have very little educational background. If you can not dwell past the physical (another man’s color), or the concrete; how can you then be intelligent enough to dwell or think in the abstract (higher mental concepts)? But even worse, imagine waking up the day after the election and McCain and Palin have won. Doesn’t the shock of that thought brings chills to your very soul. Unless, you are very wealthy, you will not benefit whatsoever. Imagine trying to suffer through four more years of making ends meet. Imagine having to continually send your relatives to war. Imagine having to lose your home to those wealthy enough to buy your home right in front of your very face. Imagine being unable to buy health care unless you work two-or-more jobs. But once those votes are cast, you cannot take them back. I think that all those average white Americans that do not vote for a candidate because of a color associated to him, will regret that day. After four months of McCain and Palin, they will be screaming in agony (kind of like what happened when the 2004 election was taken). Why would anyone put hatred and hidden bigotry ahead of their very future and that of their family? Truly mind-boggling. Again, imagine the day after the election and McCain and Palin have won. If that doesn’t frighten you, then you truly deserve whatever comes your way. If you are wealthy, then more power to you. This election is not about color… Consider this, the Obama’s only recently paid off college loans, since the book netted them decent revenue. Their registered car is that of a Ford hybrid Escape…imagine that; this is truly unbelievable; wouldn’t you have expected a lexus or BMW, etc… McCain and family have 13 registered vehicles, two foreign. I bet McCain wouldn’t loan you a vehicle to transport you family around, if you asked…

  6. Tommy-Florida says:

Unfortunately, because of racism America will suffer
after the election if the republicans control the
White House. The amount of suffering will reach far beyond racial bounderies. I’m an African American
male in my 50’s and I can tell you for sure that the
economic diaster we’ll face will destroy America. Many
African Americans already know what it is like to suffer
extreme hardships. But, if McCain is elected it will
usher in a new level of suffering for White-America
that has never been experienced before. It will add
new meaning to the saying, YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED!

  7. Anthony, Philadelphia the cradle of liberty says:

The choice for the democrats was a black man. Are there enough black people in the democrat party alone to choose the candidate? I suggest that there are not. The only way for a candidate to win was to have white support. The story is outrageous and it views only white Americans as having any racist proclivities. I know that some republicans won’t vote for any democrat regardless of his or her race period.

The only result of this story is to stoke more racial divide. To call anyone who does not support the democratic candidate a racist. I heard stories of blacks condemning other blacks for supporting Hillary during the primaries. Comments like “uncle tom” were used against those blacks that did not support him. In my place of employment one black woman said “we can’t stop now we come so far that we have to support the black guy.” Who cares if he is qualified, he is black and that’s good enough. What is this type of behavior, tribal support? I think not.

I am not a democrat or a republican, I am a registered libertarian. I don’t support either candidate but I can see the deception of this story. It clearly is “sour grapes” in the event of a loss of the democrat candidate. Along the same lines as George Bush was selected not elected during the 2000 election.

I am so tired of the politics of personal destruction. The attacks on the family of Governor Palin, the overtones of Obama’s religious past, are all fodder for the electorate and it is all distasteful to me. This story is just another one with the same tone. Support Obama or be called a racist. Maybe not to your face, but you will be labeled.

I hope that the media wakes up. If Obama does not win, I am certain we will in the near future have a black president. It is inevitable and a day I look forward to. I don’t want to support a guy because he is black. I want to support the best qualified choice whoever that is, black, brown, purple or yes even white.

Figures don’t lie, but liars sure can figure, that sums up the story nicely.

  8. Tommy-Florida says:

I’m not a racist. However, anyone who has refused to
embrace the fundamentals of the American Constitution and the belief that all men are created
equal, should be shipped to a country of your choice.
Or better yet, move to Afganistan so you can hang out
with the other fanatic(Bin Laden) who hate the American way of life. So, remember this racist
person, if you reject the fundamentals of the U.S Con-
stitution you are just as anti-American as Bin Laden.

  9. Yellowbird1 says:

This is one year where it will not be black or white. Or even brown and yellow. It will be green. Money, that is. Like the Paul McCartney song, Obama (Ebony) and Biden (Ivory) are going to win because people care more about their money than anything else. Listen to the lyrics of that song. Fits this year perfectly.

Billy Bob and Susie Mae have to have food in their lunchboxes. The electric has to be on so that they can do their homework. The gas bill has to paid so they don’t freeze this winter; etc. and so on. If they have to they (racists) will say, “Oh, well..at least we have Biden.” It is going to come down to that truth.
Truth is a word the Republican campaign is having much trouble with in this election. Or they (racists) can leave the country if they do not want a black man to lead them. To that I scream from the highest mountaintop, “Goodbye and good riddance to bad rubbish!!!”

  10. SC Votes says:

Soooo, the truth finally surfaces. The excuses have been, he’ s Muslim, huh don’t know anything about him, his church/pastor is bad, he’s too liberal, etc. etc. Now that all of the excuses are old or proving to be untrue, it is finally being acknowledged that RACISM is alive and well. Too bad that AMERICA can’t loose the tie that binds, yet we say/sing….”God Bless America”!

  11. Sick & Tired says:

America is the most hippocritical country on earth..It potrays itself as being so inclusive…the truth is the USA is not fooling anyone, the rest of the world knows it’s hippocritical The rest of the world also knows theUSA always seems to select fools & liars for president especially the last 8 years, so it would be no surprise if they don’t elect Obama. He’s not only black, but very intelligent, and oh yes- actually has morals!…..That doesn’t represent all the racist of the USA…It’s amazing how the very igonorant usually are the ones that loose the most when electing republicans who don’t care a bit about them, but use them every 4 years to keep them rich & in power…

    Obama/Biden 08

  12. John McCain says:

I am so proud of you, Willy, that you saw the need to disclose you are a white son. And that your Squaw is also white.
    I am really relieved.

  13. lunawolf says:

The other day a Sacramento for Obama rep came into the Eco Club to tell us about their canvassing and phone banking at their office. The rep said that it would truly be a measure of what the US is made of if we elect Obama/Biden in November. It goes the other way, too. If McCain is elected, we will see what we are made of, and it will not be pretty.

  14. Brigitte says:

As a German women witha the bi-racial son, I have always been very suspect of the sudden change toward black Americans. But now, regretfully, my suspicion becomes again reality. I have felt the hippocrasy of the “Average American” all my life. Hoping the tide would turn and racism would be a thing of the past was indeed in vain. Such a large portion of uneducated, bigot and hateful people still exist.
What a shame and truly a loss for a country who claims to be the land of the free. Seems to me, some people are still more free than others.

  15. Dave says:

Interesting poll. But I doubt race be statistically meaningful to this race(no pun intended). I am in my mid-thirties and multi-racial, so I have seen the growth in racial tolerance over the last few decades. I believe we have made vast strides and while we still have some work to do, I suspect “most” people will vote the issues.

Did they publish the region the sample was taken from?

[Edit] No they didn’t – but that is not surprising they never do. This is applicable in all polls, but it was stated that pollters were deliberately targeting “Republican” registered voters a few weeks ago – how tru that is I am not sure.

  16. Paul says:

I refuse to vote for Obama for the same reasons I refused to vote for Dukakis and McGovern. They were and he is just too liberal. I just spent 10 years building a business with my blood and sweat, and just when I want to cash it in, Obama wants to raise the capital gains tax. That is my money. Period. In Maryland I voted for Steele for congress – one of the smartest guys I ever heard (and he just happens to be black). I’m no racist – I’m a capitalist, and I want the fruits of my labor. My mom was a secretary, and my dad was a mechanic, and we were poor. Everything I have I got myself. Keep your hands off my wallet – do it your damn self!

  17. James says:

“Poll: Forty percent of white Americans have at least a partly negative view of blacks”

And the percentage of black americans that have at least a partly negative view of whites ??? or women for that matter??

I don’t see that poll you SOB !!!

  18. Stuart says:

Will race be a factor in the presidential election?According to Obama, no. That’s what he said. “I think it will be a wash,” he said on Sixty Minutes. He was referring to the fact that he thought some Americans would not vote for him because he is black, and some black Americans will vote for him just because he is black.

Obama the candidate takes the high road and wants to pretend he doesn’t rely on the race issue. Obama the political machine however, uses his minions to argue the point all day long, on website after website, in newspaper after newspaper, on TV show after TV show. Race, race, race. The idea is to try to make voters feel guilty for disliking Obama’s politics. Not his color, his politics.

But it’s okay. You can be white and disagree with Obama’s politics and not be a racist, despite the implications of these “polls”.

Besides, race has already affected the election. How? Racism against Hillary Clinton resulted in nomination of Obama in a fatally flawed process undertaken by the Democratic Party.

Racism against Hillary? You bet. If in any given state, Hillary got 90% of the white vote, liberals of every stripe would say that is racism at work. Of course it didn’t happen. But what about when Obama received 90% or more of the black vote in some states? Racism? You bet. These black voters voted for the black candidate. Did it affect the outcome? You bet. Fatally affected. How so?

In some states, where the percentage of Democratic Party voters who are black is high, Obama received overwhelming support, in some cases as high or higher than 90%. For the Democratic Party, this may spell disaster. Why? Because in those states, Obama has no chance of winning the vote against McCain. He won against Hillary, because of the high percentage of black voters among Democrats, but in the general election, that percentage is quite low. Against voters who will vote policies, not race, he will not prevail. So, Obama was selected based on race in states which he cannot carry in the general election, but which Hillary Clinton would have stood a better chance of getting crossover votes. The Democratic Party’s flawed process allowed nomination of a candidate who cannot win the general election, and the cause of that situation is racism. There is no other name for it when 90% of a group votes for a member of their own race.

Will some whites vote against Obama in the general election because he is black? Yes. There are loads of ignorant Americans who have grown up spoon fed prejudice, bias and hatred. But far more whites will vote against Obama because he is a member of the fringe left wing of the Democrat Party, and they fear his policies.

The Democrats appear unwilling or unable to learn from previous mistakes with Gore and Kerry as the last two candidates, who lost as only extreme liberals can do. Given the chance to have Hillary Clinton represent a larger cross section of Americans, they allowed race to choose a different candidate. Will blacks vote for Obama because he is black? You bet. An overwhelming majority of blacks.

So why are Obama’s minions only talking about white voters? Why aren’t they talking about black voters, too?

I am not a racist. I can make a list of black candidates I would vote for in a heartbeat. Obama is not one of them. Obama represents a thinking I find dangerous and short sighted in today’s world fraught with danger and uncertainty. Weakness in America’s convictions will spell disaster around the world. It’s not about white or black race. It’s a black and white decision about ideals, and it’s an easy choice voting for convictions. It would be a tragedy to see a timid America under the leadership of a timid president.

Now that doesn’t have a damn thing to do with black or white. Just guts. And guts don’t come in white or black, only red, white and blue.

  19. brenda says:

blah blah blah…..anyone that says that Obama being black won’t effect the view of this race has their head in the sand. There is a silent majority that is saying “”Obama woo woo woo” but once they get behind the curtain, there is no way they want a black president. The black people of this country have ruined their reputation for generations. Rev Wright and Rev Manning have summed up what the black people think, behave and their actions towards the American Public. The white people have backed down to the blacks for years, and I havn’t a clue. Hollywood loves Obama, and loves to make fun of McCain and Palin, digging through every inch of their private life, but they havn’t done this to Obama. Here are some questions that were asked of Obama, and the response given.

  20. steve says:

according to the liberals, only whites can be racists. don’t forget that.

There are still far more whites that will vote for obama BECAUSE he is black than there are whites who will not vote for him because he’s black.

Again, most blacks are voting for Obama because he’s black, they openly admit this, yet that’s somehow not racist. And in the primaries, given a chocie of a black candidate or a white democratic candidate, they voted for the black candidate, yet that’s not racist, bUT OH NO! IF OBAMA DOESN”T WIN, IT MUST BE DUE TO WHITE RACISM.

    Grow up you whining crybabies!

  21. Will Rhodes says:

    Occidental College records

Barack Obama attended Occidental College from fall 1979 through spring 1981 and then transferred to Columbia University in New York. He is not a graduate of Occidental, however, the Occidental College bylaws state that anyone who completes at least eight courses of undergraduate work (or a year of graduate studies) is eligible for alumni status. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations protect the privacy of student education records. We, therefore, cannot disclose students’ classes, grade point averages, majors or other such information.

Educate yourself about what is legally permissible and what isn’t in the US (Applicable to everyone) 3. 22. TJ says:

If only people would grow up. The fact of the matter is, ALL of us in this country are suffering thanks to Republican “leadership”, or lack thereof. The housing market is in crisis. The financial markets are in a tailspin. The country is beset with misinformation and lies by the Bush administration. Gas prices are out of control. Yet some people would give the woe begotten Republican party another chance, just because of Obama’s skin color? In case you missed it, Bush had two Black Secys. of State. Did the world come to an end? Obama has a white mother, and was raised in large part by white people. He knows more about white culture from his own personal experience than he does the Black culture. When all is said and done, we need someone who will pull us out of this mess. Does it really matter the color of the person that saves you if you are drowning? According to some people, I guess the answer is yes. How dumb can you get?

  23. TJ says:

If some people would stop whining and crying foul about the alleged difference of treatment by the media of the two candidates, they would be able to see what the rest of the country already knows: That Republicans have no ideas, Republicans have no plans, Republicans are not good for the country (or the world for that matter), and it is all their own fault the world views them in such a negative light. Get over it! McBush and the Republiscum offer nothing, save for the empty promises of a Washington power broker and a bunch of lobbyists in waiting.

  24. Jennifer says:

“Democrats, however, typically get close to 90 percent of the African-American vote anyway.”

A reasonable excuse until you get a Democratic primary with TWO democrats, then 80% or better blacks vote for the black guy instead of the white lady, whereas the white vote is split 50/50. South Carolina anyone?

  25. Steve says:

JENNIFER! When will you ever learn! To the PC left, only whites can be racist! So they must have had a very good reason to have done what they did in SC. YOU ARE A RACIST FOR SUGGESTING THEY ARE RACIST!

  26. lunawolf says:

80% of black people voted for the black candidate while the split between white people was 50/50 and this is somehow supposed to prove that black people only voted for Obama because he was black? I would label the black people that voted for him better informed rather than racist.

By all means, leave your 2 bobs worth
