Palin and John “Coat Hanger” McCain claims that she is great on economics, but as mayor of Wasilla she followed the McCain and Bush tax cut and spend approach. While she was cutting taxes as Mayor of Wasilla she was also expanding the town’s operating budget by nearly $2 million. By the time she left office she left the town of Wasilla $20 million in debt.
As governor of Alaska she raised the windfall tax on oil companies that enabled Alaska to double its oil revenue; however, just this year Palin said, “Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production.” In the meantime ConocoPhillips will scale back their Alaska drilling plan because of higher taxes.
