Clinton: Obama ‘must be our president’ – CNN.com
Hillary Clinton had me worried a couple of times during the primaries – anyone who reads this blog knows I am an Obama supporter, and to be honest, if she had spoken like she did last night throughout her primary campaign I would be sucking it up and saying vote in Hillary Clinton for President.
If the GOP think they had found a secret backer in her, last night proved how wrong they are.
“No way. No how. No McCain.”
And, she meant it. The great thing about this is that Hillary Clinton can take on that flank and be the second attack dog – and I think she will relish it. OK – her and Barack Obama will never be the closest of friends, that’s a given and people know it. But she wants him as president because he is a Democrat. The GOP are going to run more of the same ads – but now she can be released to say what she wants about McCain. Something that the GOP are going to have to address – and that means allowing the press near the closeted McCain. He is wrapped up in cotton wool right now – but with her speech it prods that McCain is going to have to talk policy – just repeating ad infinitum that you were a POW isn’t going to cut it after the conventions – and the GOP know it.
Moses Ross, a Clinton delegate from Oregon, was impressed. He said the speech showed class. “She understands that the unity of this party is tantamount to our success,” Ross said. “As a Hillary Clinton delegate, I will listen to her and I will support Barack Obama.”
That wasn’t the only former Clinton supporter, there was many who said exactly the same thing. Yes – they support Hillary Clinton and now, because of that speech – WILL support Obama. She called for unity and to stand behind the Democratic candidate – and the vast majority of her supporters will do just that.
Defeat is a nasty tasting pill to swallow – most of us knows that – but, after a defeat you can then go on to a greater victory that taste pales and you know you have won.
Now, on to the man – Bill Clinton speaks tonight. One of the greatest American presidents – EVER.
