Green gold rush or WWIII

Obama’s energy plan would create green gold rush –

The title really does say it all. You have a presidential candidate who wants nothing more than what Iceland and Sweden have done, become energy independent – to get away from oil and fossil fuels.

You have another presidential candidate that wants war, more oil and to stick with a status quo that could, if the right circumstances arise, lead to a large conflict. And with the US being as she is now – it wouldn’t be an odds on bet to say she would win it.

What the war in Iraq has shown is that the US forces can be stretched – and that they are now. What McCain would have to do is draft, draft and more draft. Would the American people stand for that? I really don’t think so. But, as is said in this story – we Europeans, as with others, cannot understand the US psyche, why do they feel a cantankerous old man can do something to help their nation?

He can’t. He can bring something that the neocons want – and that is a partial or complete global conflict.

I just can’t see how almost half of the voters want McCain as president – maybe an American can tell us. Maybe they can’t, maybe they don’t understand it either.

Most Americans I talk to are anti-McCain, they see what the rest of the world sees, and they are not wrong.

The only way to stop McCain is to vote for Obama. I respect that others wanted Hillary Clinton – but if they do as they say they will do, they will gift the US to the GOP and John McCain – is that a price they are willing to pay? To be hated by those who wanted change back in 2008? To have their candidate spurned because of the actions, not of her, but her spoilers?

John McCain hopes that this is the case.

Not necessarily. Obama wants energy independence, sure, but he’s said that he will drill off-shore as well due to the fabrications of the GOP spreading its way into the minds of low-information voters. Obama will represent half-change: sure, he’ll put more money into alternative energy — but he’ll put money into coal too, which is worse than supporting oil.

I have, and will continue to disagree with the Dems policy of including drilling – it’s stupid.

Obama was right when he said no gas-tax holiday, he was right to say no drilling.

He was wrong on bio-fuels and still is.

I agree with you that the way too many American voters are not genned up on politics.

Hey – I want it a core subject in schools I believe it is that important.

  3. leapsecond says:

The problem with making politics a subject in school is that, invariably, the pupils are going to side with the political affiliation of the teacher.

My sort-of solution is to have the teacher make them read books from every single possible political mindset and just have students read then debate their opinions in class, with the teacher acting as a moderator. However… it’s not college and that means that the students wouldn’t be able to keep up with all the reading.

  4. Will Rhodes says:

    I could go with that.

  5. Julie P says:

Concerning teachers and even professors who indoctrinate students with a certain politcal point of view I am going to have to agree. When I took macro and micro economics in college I had two professors, one especially, who used the classes like a Republican re-education camp. Those were two longest semesters of my college education.

By all means, leave your 2 bobs worth
