As Bush lectures China…

…the US military feel making a man stand for 12 hours is OK.

Not that standing is that bad – but standing in a box of no more than 3X3X6. And this is said to be humane.

At one time the US military was looked up to in regards treating prisoners with great restraint and dignity. What has happened?

IS it Bush and the way he allows such behaviour? I could imagine some of the previous president of the US both turning in their grave at such abuse and just being saddened that this is happening.

It is sickening to even think about it.

“America stands in firm opposition to China’s detention of political dissidents, human rights advocates and religious activists,” Bush said.

“We speak out for a free press, freedom of assembly, and labor rights — not to antagonize China’s leaders, but because trusting its people with greater freedom is the only way for China to develop its full potential,” he said. “And we press for openness and justice not to impose our beliefs, but to allow the Chinese people to express theirs.”

Sheer hypocrisy on Bush’s part – and we know that McCain will continue for this to be allowed.

China knows 9/11 attack was done by the US/Saudi
Now with the Bush Torture Policy it’s a joke for him to talk to anyone. Jose Padilla is innocent but the US drugged and tortured him until he’s brain dead now. Bin Laden’s chauffeur just drove the car as any chauffeur would do even the Bush Family chauffeur does. Kept in jail and tortured with a fake trial now he completes his sentence for a crime he didn’t commit Bush says he will have to stay in jail for life. Do you think China would listen to a President who is the real Axis of Evil.

Despite what you may think, these individuals have not been randomly picked up off the street. they are thugs and terrorists of the worst kind. To say that Jose Padilla is innocent is just someone talking without seeing any of the facts. While I don’t have first hand knowledge, just like the blown out of proportion Gitmo, I can only imagine that prisoners are placed in these isolation devices when they commit such nice acts as throwing their excrement at the guards. If the prisoners are being mistreated it would be because the guards got out of hand, not because of any policy. It’s amazing to me how you can jump to calling President Bush the devil, when he was fairly elected, there is a Deomcratic controlled Congress (who can’t find their rear end with both hands, elected by the public), and a Judical branch teeming with liberals who hate law and order. Nuff said.

It does seem a bit contradictory. 😦

  4. Matt says:

“China knows 9/11 attack was done by the US/Saudi”

    :rolls eyes:

Grap the straightjacket, Steve, we’ve got another one!

  5. Will Rhodes says:

Indeed, Muse, indeed. I was shocked by the story.

Matt – not everything is fully known by us all about 9/11 – there are, shall we say, certain anomalies – one Google search will show you. And not everything is written by cranks.

  6. Matt says:

    Will, tell me you’re not a believer…

I can come up with anomalies for many, many different events that occured throughout the history of mankind: does that imply they’re conspiracies? I submit that it does not, only that evidence has not been found, disclosed or even exists that could eliminate those anomalies.

And a Google search will show you that most of your “anomalies” in this instance are, in fact, logically explained by experts.

Anywho, my point was not to debate 9/11 but instead to point to the fact that Jackie is using certain, shall we say, “alternatives to the truth” in her admonition of President Bush. But such types of people will just claim that we don’t know the whole truth, so my argument falls on deaf ears. Oh well.

  7. Will Rhodes says:

Matt – in the definition of torture, waterboarding is just that.

You cannot say to other nations “Oh by the way your human rights record is shit!” if you, too, are doing exactly the same thing or a derivative thereof.

Whether that be because of what some deem a justification of torture because some extremists attacked the US is simply wrong.

In things such as these you cannot have your cake and eat it!

  8. Matt says:

I understand your point of view, Will. Yes, by UN standards, we commit torture. However, I feel we should not belong to the United Nations, I feel our torture is acceptable, and I feel that the President can lecture other nations who do not practice torture safely as we do. That’s just how I feel, deal with it.

Now, I wasn’t talking about waterboarding or standing in a crate. I was talking about her claims of a 9/11 conspiracy, and the innocence of Jose Padilla and Bin Laden’s driver. Those are the claims she uses to support her animosity towards President Bush, and I feel it inappropriate to use such claims as justification.

  9. Will Rhodes says:

    Safe torture? 😯

Even for you that’s a low one, Matt.

  10. Matt says:

“Safely”, not “safe”. Not many other countries have medical personnel present during torture sessions…

Although such reports are never published, I’d like to see a comparison of the rate at which our tortured prisoners die versus the rate of other countries (and they all practice some form of torture according to the UN standard, whether it gets leaked or not).

  11. Will Rhodes says:

I am glad you are taking the piss. LOL

  12. Matt says:

Glad to make you laugh (I think?). I always like hearing English idioms: what does “taking the piss” mean? I’m assuming it’s not the same as “spending a penny”…

  13. Will Rhodes says:

It means ‘making light of the situation’ or ‘joking’ or ‘To appear serious, but actually meaning the opposite – most of the time.’

Usually followed up by the ‘piss taker’ (the one who joked) revealing he/she was only joking.

  14. Matt says:

When do I ever joke? I’ve always been 100% serious with you Will 😉 LOL

By all means, leave your 2 bobs worth
